Every year at the Faculty of Spatial Sciences, all 3rd-year students Human Geography and Urban and Regional Planning go on a study trip abroad. In this course (along with ‘Bachelor Project’ the final course in the 3-year bachelor HG&P) called ‘Fieldwork Abroad’ the students can choose to go on two different trips, one of them being a trip to Iceland, Philadelphia and New York. During the course, the students work on a group-research project, conduct interviews, undertake excursions, and visit foreign organizations like companies and municipalities, among other things. Of course, there is also plenty of time and opportunity for the students to take in the foreign scenery, with and without their ”geografische bril”.

So, in the year 2018, 37 students and 2 teachers left Groningen. They spent 5 nights in Reykjavik (Iceland), 5 nights in Philadelphia (USA) and 4 nights in New York City. Girugten invites you along for the journey and presents to you: the Aftermovie of Fieldwork Abroad 2018 (Iceland & USA). Follow these students as they take their final steps in their bachelor phase, on the trip where all their gathered academic skills come together. Oh, and the video has some cool drone footage in it as well.
